The idea of this sailing voyage is based on one of the oldest traditional legends of our western civilization, coming all the way from Greek mythology. More than 3300 years ago, during their long voyage, Jason and his Argonauts launched their ship in northern top of Adriatic (in Duino, just north of Trieste) and sailed on towards their home in Greece. With them, they brought the Golden fleece and successfully finished their long and winding voyage.
More than hundred years after the Argonauts, Odyssey, one of the most well-known Greek heroes was given similar fate. Exhausted after fighting in the Trojan war for 10 years, he then took another 10 to come home. His ten-year voyage was marked by many changes of fortune, finishing with his safe return home to his family, and making Homer's Odyssey one of the most important works of the Western culture.
Greek culture is obviously a cradle of all modern European cultures, and Golden Odyssey is meant to connect and blend them all together in this adventurous sailing event.
